Kawachan is a wiki software based off of MediaWiki. It is in development by Team Ikaria.

There have been two major releases thus far: Kawachan 5 and Kawachan 6. Both releases kept the base MediaWiki engine.

The next planned version is Kawachan 7, which will be a rewrite from scratch, not using the MediaWiki engine, but will still be based off of it (for example, MediaWiki skins will be retained).

There are no plans to publicly release versions 5 or 6, as the author feels the code is too hackish to be publicly released. However, from version 7 onwards, releases will be public and open source under a license to be chosen at a later date.
